FEU official slams Board decision on FEU-NU game

Coach Bert Flores and the FEU Tamaraws will meet NU mentor Eric Altamirano and the Bulldogs for the third time in the UAAP this season. Jerome Ascano
A TOP Far Eastern University sports official took to microblogging site Twitter his frustration over the UAAP Board’s decision to replay the Tamaraws’ controversial game over National University last week.
Mark Molina, the FEU athletic director, criticized the decision of the Board on his Twitter account @marqmolina.

“Board of non-basketball people overruled the basketball comm.. they hired on a technical matter. Dapat board na din refs for remaining games,” Molina tweeted.
On Friday, the UAAP Board ruled a replay of the Tamaraws’ contested victory over the Bulldogs last Sept. 2 after concurring that RR Garcia’s last gasp, game-winning lay-up was inconclusive.
The replay will be played on Sept. 23.
Meanwhile, UAAP commissioner Ato Badolato preferred not to comment on the Board’s action overruling his decision.
Badolato, who carved his niche as a multi-titled champion coach of the San Beda juniors team, earlier denied the protest of NU contesting Garcia’s game-winning lay-up after making another review of the controversial play.
For the record, this is not the first time the Board decided for a game to be replayed.
In 2005, the Board similarly ordered a replay of the game between De La Salle and University of the East which the Archers won on an improbable buzzer-beater by wingman Cholo Villanueva.
The basket by Villanueva came after La Salle sued for a timeout with 1.8 seconds left. The Warriors however, protested that a timeout should not have been called since the Green Archers had already inbounded the ball before the play was stopped..
The UAAP technical committee upheld UE’s protest and replayed the game, which the Green Archers still won.
