PBA commissioner Chito Salud has scheduled a meeting next Tuesday with San Mig Coffee superstar James Yap to discuss the two-time Most Valuable Player’s flagrant foul and ejection in the Mixers’ loss to Rain or Shine Wednesday night.
Yap, one of the most popular players in the league, was thrown out of the game after hitting Rain or Shine defensive specialist Jireh Ibañes on a fastbreak play. Since he had already been assessed an earlier technical foul for second motion — also on Ibañes — Yap was ejected from the match.
“May parteng pinagsisisihan ko yung ginawa ko, pero may parte ring hindi,” Yap told InterAKTV in an exclusive interview after the game. “Hindi ako nagsisisi dahil gusto kong ipakita na hindi na rin tama yung ginagawa niya. Pero nagsisisi ako sa huli dahil nakalimutan ko may technical foul na pala ako sa first half.”
The commissioner said he hasn't decided on whether to suspend Yap until he hears the player’s side.
“I still have to review it. But definitely, he will be sanctioned,” said Salud.
Salud pushed the meeting to next week because of a regular holiday on Friday. That would leave Yap eligible to play in the Mixers’ match against Barako Bull on Sunday.
