San Mig Coffee coach Tim Cone said the best way to get back in the thick of things is to beat the league leader.
The Mixers try to get an even slate against the No. 1 Alaska team as they clash in the main game of the 2013 PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Saturday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
They square off at 8 p.m. right after the opening game meet up of Air 21 and GlobalPort at 4:45 p.m.
“We’re going through a bit of a struggle at this point and not playing the basketball we expect from ourselves,” said Cone, as his team is just at the middle of the team standings with 4-5 win-loss mark.
“But we also expect push through and get ourselves going. We’ve got the first place team right ahead of us, so we’ve got our work cut out of us if we want to get back on track.”
The defending champions are coming off a tough 87-82 loss to the Express last Wednesday.
Alaska, on the other hand, has gotten back to its feet after a loss with a 93-85 victory over the hapless Batang Pier last Sunday.
Despite the win, Aces coach Luigi Trillo was not satisfied with their performance against GlobalPort.
“We need to keep our focus for a full 48 minutes. Last game we won the first and fourth quarters. We lost the second and third quarters,” said Trillo, whose team is holding a league-leading 7-2 win-loss mark.
“50-50 chance for both teams to win this upcoming game.”
For the record, Alaska has yet to beat its former head coach in six games since Cone left the Uytengsu franchise before last season.
