The 3-0 Tropang Texters square off with the 2-0 Coffee Mixers in the main dish at 8 p.m. which will be broadcast live over AKTV after the NCAA finals.
Tournament dark horse Rain or Shine meets rejuvenated GlobalPort in the opener at 5:45 p.m. The game will be broadcast on a delayed basis after the second game
Talk ‘N Text, the defending all-Filipino champion, is coming off a shaky 96-89 win over Air 21 and new coach Norman Black said the Tropang Texters can’t afford to play like that against San Mig Coffee.
“They’re one of the top teams in the league so we have to play better defensively,” said Black after nailing his first official PBA win with Talk ‘N Text last Wednesday.
San Mig Coffee are coming off a tough 90-84 victory against Petron Blaze and coach Tim Cone expects another difficult grind against the Tropang Texters.
Jimmy Alapag, Ryan Reyes, Kelly Wiliams, Ranidel de Ocampo, and Ali Peek will banner Talk ‘N Text, while James Yap, Peter June Simon, Marc Pingris, Marc Barroca and Yance de Ocampo will spearhead San Mig Coffee’s search for its third straight win.
In the opener, the Batang Pier eye their second straight win against the well-rested Elasto Painters.
GlobalPort finally nailed its first PBA win after edging Meralco, 105-104. Rain or Shine defeated the Express, 99-98, last October 12 for a 2-1 win-loss mark.
“Malaking bagay ‘yung first win namin. The morale of the team was really down. Ngayon we got our first win, hindi na kami nalalayo sa standings,” said Batang Pier coach Glen Capacio. “Hopefully ma-sustain namin ito.”
