PBA commissioner Salud to meet with James Yap next week over flagrant foul

PBA commissioner Chito Salud has scheduled a meeting next Tuesday with San Mig Coffee superstar James Yap to discuss the two-time Most Valuable Player’s flagrant foul and ejection in the Mixers’ loss to Rain or Shine Wednesday night.
Yap, one of the most popular players in the league, was thrown out of the game after hitting Rain or Shine defensive specialist Jireh Ibañes on a fastbreak play. Since he had already been assessed an earlier technical foul for second motion — also on Ibañes — Yap was ejected from the match.
“May parteng pinagsisisihan ko yung ginawa ko, pero may parte ring hindi,” Yap told InterAKTV in an exclusive interview after the game. “Hindi ako nagsisisi dahil gusto kong ipakita na hindi na rin tama yung ginagawa niya. Pero nagsisisi ako sa huli dahil nakalimutan ko may technical foul na pala ako sa first half.”
The commissioner said he hasn't decided on whether to suspend Yap until he hears the player’s side.
“I still have to review it. But definitely, he will be sanctioned,” said Salud.
Salud pushed the meeting to next week because of a regular holiday on Friday. That would leave Yap eligible to play in the Mixers’ match against Barako Bull on Sunday.

Alaska shoots for its third straight win against the reeling Air 21 squad in Friday’s first match as the 2013 PBA Philippine Cup resumes at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
The Aces and the Express meet at 5:15 p.m. to be followed by the encounter between Petron Blaze and newcomer GlobalPort at 7:30 p.m.
After a disappointing a 0-2 start, Alaska won its last two assignments, including a huge 88-86 win against the Boosters where Calvin Abueva, the No. 2 overall pick, who finally played his first PBA game.
The versatile former San Sebastian forward had an impressive debut with 12 points and 16 rebounds off the bench.
“He’s our energizer,” said Aces coach Luigi Trillo. “We’re fortunate to have him in the team but we still have a lot of work to do.”
Aside from Abueva, Dondon Hontiveros keyed Alaska’s fourth-quarter fightback against Petron, his former team, to improve their win-loss mark to 2-2.
Air 21 coach Franz Pumaren knows his team is in for a tough challenge.
“Alaska is playing pretty well. That team is full of veteran players and pretty solid in every position,” said Pumaren, whose team is coming off an 85-72 loss to Meralco.
“I guess my players are still feeling their way one another because they are not used of getting all the minutes.”
In the main game, Petron eyes to lift its record to .500 as it takes on the Batang Pier, who are sharing the bottom spot with two other teams with a 1-4 mark.
The Boosters of coach Olsen Racela snapped their losing woes with a much-needed 98-95 victory over sister team Barangay Ginebra San Miguel last Sunday.
“I think we gained our confidence back after that win against Ginebra,” said Racela, who lost veteran big man Danny Ildefonso in that game because of a dislocated left shoulder.
GlobalPort dropped a 94-83 decision to Rain or Shine in its previous game, the team’s fourth loss in five starts.
