Party Poker World Cup Of Pool.MANILA, Philippines – Dennis Orcollo and Lee Van Corteza of Philippines-A yielded to unranked Switzerland, 7-8, Wednesday night in Day 2 of the 2012 PartyPoker.net World Cup of Pool before a stunned crowd at the jampacked Robinson’s Ermita Midtown Activity Center Manila.
It looked like Orcollo and Corteza were on their way to an easy win after leading, 6-2, but two costly misses by Corteza in the next two racks got the Swiss pair on track.
“Dry break led to our loss,” said Orcollo.
“No ball dropped though I gave all in the break,” echoed the 33-year-old Corteza.
Orcollo almost pulled off a four-nine combination that would’ve pushed the Philippines in the next round but the nine ball was hit thick as it missed the corner pocket and instead Switzerland’s Dimitri Jungo and Fil-Swiss Ronni Regli, whose mother is a Samar native, made it a hill-hill battle.
Switzerland followed it up with a break and runout in the deciding rack.
Meanwhile, Finland overcame a poor start to beat Korea, 8-6.
Mika Immonen and Petri Makkonen trailed Ryu Seung Woo and Lee Wan Su, 0-4, before Finland found its rhythm after chalking up three straight racks highlighted by a two-nine combination by Immonen.
Also, Chinese Taipei sweated out an 8-6, win over Malaysia.
