Ateneo star Kiefer Ravena says he didn't know UST slotman Karim Abdul would challenge his dunk. Jerome Ascano
ONE day later, the dunk is still being talked about in league circles and on social media sites.
It happened like this.
With Ateneo on the break after a University of Santo Tomas turnover, Ravena cut loose for a fastbreak, unaware that Tigers' big man Karim Abdul was in hot pursuit just a step or two behind him and determined to stop him.
The UAAP's most famous player finished the dunk with full force that there was nothing Abdul could do to stop it, the King Eagle letting out a roar as the Ateneo crowd at the MOA Arena went wild.
“Highlight of my career,” Ravena jokingly said, drawing a smile from his coach in Norman Black during the postgame interview on Saturday after the win over the Tigers.
Whether it was in jest or not, Ravena’s highlight play has drawn raves on social media.

Among those who were left in awe was Talk ‘N Text cager Jimmy Alapag, who watched the Ateneo-UST game together with businessman Manny V. Pangilinan.
“Hope they got a nice pic of @kieferravena last dunk! That was nasty! #SlamofdaMonth,” Alapag tweeted on this Twitter account @JAlapag3.
Former Blue Eagle Jai Reyes said on his Twitter account: “Dunk of the year!! @kieferravena (expletive) dunk yan”
To date, videos of the dunk have attracted more than 8,000 views on YouTube.
Ravena said that he was dead-set on dunking the ball to give the Eagles a much-needed spark after they trailed for most of the first half.
He also didn't want to get a tongue-lashing from Black, who has always encouraged his star player to finish strong.
“I wanted to dunk it,” Ravena said. “Kapag sa practice, pinapagalitan ako ni coach Norman (Black) kapag minimintis ko. We were playing kind of low and intensity-wise, gusto ko ipakita ‘yung intensity.”
The player who goes by the monicker ‘The Phenom’ said that he never had a clue that Abdul was on his way to challenging the dunk.
“I took it strong and met him upstairs. Nagulat ako na sumabay si Karim,” Ravena said.
