TOKYO, Japan (4th FIBA Asia Cup): SEABA champions Philippines wound up their Group A Prelim Round engagements on Monday with a 98-46 win against Macau that left them with a 3-1 record and a strong possibility of finishing as the No 2 in their group.
“Looks like whichever team it is, it’ll be a tough one,” Philippines coach Chot Reyes said looking ahead.
“Our biggest concern is we have two days off.”
Philippines have their off day of the Round on the morrow followed by the rest day for the competition itself on Wednesday before lining up against the No 3 team from Group B in the quarterfinals.
“It looks like it’ll either be Qatar or Chinese Taipei. Both are as good or as tough as the other,” Reyes said.
Philippines were hardly tested by the rookies that Macau are with Reyes even keeping the naturalized center Marcus Douthit on the bench for the entire game.
Each of the others were on court for more than 10 minutes and all of them scored. Jeff Chan’s 18 points was the highest.
China down Uzbekistan
In the other game of the day in the same group, China recovered from their pummeling at the hands of Lebanon last night and won 107-47.
Zhai Tailong was the leading scorer for China with 20 points.
